The Best Time to Visit Naples, Florida

Everyone comes in February. The people who live here would tell you to come in November.

Naples has two genuine seasons: a dry, mild, extremely busy winter, and a hot, wet, nearly empty summer. The interesting decisions happen in the four shoulder months at either end.

The short answer

  • Best overall: November and April — dry, warm, uncrowded, everything open.
  • Best weather: January to March, and the entire world knows it.
  • Best value: May and October, with warm water and low-season pricing.
  • Avoid if you can: September, for the combination of heat, rain and peak hurricane risk.

High season: December to April

Daytime highs in the mid-to-high 70s, humidity low, rain almost absent, skies hard blue. It is close to perfect, which is why the population roughly doubles and a Friday dinner reservation on Fifth Avenue South becomes a planning exercise.

The water is the catch: the Gulf drops to around 68°F in January and February, which is swimmable but bracing. Traffic on US-41 and Collier Boulevard is genuinely bad from mid-January to mid-March.

Shoulder: April, May, October, November

This is where the value is. April keeps the dry weather while the crowd thins and the Gulf warms into the 70s. November is the local favorite — the rains have stopped, the humidity has broken, stone crab season is underway and the season crowd hasn't arrived.

Low season: June to September

Hot — highs around 90°F with high humidity — and wet, with a near-daily afternoon thunderstorm. It is also cheap, quiet, and the Gulf sits at 85 to 87°F, which is the warmest, most swimmable water of the year.

The rhythm works if you let it: water in the morning, indoors from one to four, out again into a clear evening. Hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30, with the real risk concentrated in August through early October. Buy travel insurance and watch the National Hurricane Center rather than the general forecast. Warm water is what makes the swim stops worth it: from May through October a sandbar-and-swim charter is comfortable without a wetsuit, which isn't quite true in January.

  • Boating: best in winter and spring for calm, clear water. Summer trips should depart early or late to dodge storms.
  • Shelling: winter, especially the mornings after a cold front.
  • Swimming: June through October for warm water; February is bracing.
  • Dining: October to May for full menus and full staffing; some kitchens shorten hours in late summer.
  • Wildlife: the dry season (Dec–Apr) concentrates birds and gators at inland water holes — the best time for Corkscrew Swamp.
